Professor Dr. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam
Born in September, 1956, Dr Islam comes from a family line of educationists. His grandfather was a professor at Rajshahi College and father Professor at the University of Dhaka. Dr Islam completed his degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh and PhD in Design, Manufacture and Engineering Management (DMEM) from Strathclyde University, Glasgow. Returning to Bangladesh in 1988, he worked in the software arena producing large systems for Organon, Planning Commission, Grameen Trust and the highly acclaimed GrameenBanker software for Grameen Bank. He soon established himself as an expert – finding and fixing software implementation problems. During this work he developed an interest in education as he discovered that improper/ineffective training was key to implementation problems. To learn more about education delivery he completed an additional degree called Master’s in Instructional Design Technology (MIDT) in 2010. Applying his learning he developed a patented Participatory Engaging Teaching (PET) classroom technique. This is essentially an inductive teaching method based on the teachings of the Al-Qur’an that draws heavily upon cognition. PET has been applied to develop highly successful courses for developing English language fluency (ICEMT), self-esteem and employability skills (CES) and human performance management (HPM). The courses transform students into effective learners and critical thinkers.
